Videometer strives to share experience, and knowledge on food safety and quality control. Our CEO, Jens Michael Carstensen joined IAFP’s European Symposium, held between 4-6 May 2022 in Munich, Germany. The forum was attended by experts in food science and technology, which shaped an excellent environment for exchanging ideas and the latest developments in the industry.

Our state-of-the-art technology was presented during the joined session of the DiTECT partners, the EU-China project that we are part of. The project is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation program. DiTECT stands for digital technologies as an enabler for a continuous transformation of food safety system.

Detection of Contaminants in raw materials using spectral imaging

Michael’s presentation focused on the Detection of Contaminants in raw materials using spectral imaging. The seminar included a basic introduction to spectral imaging and how it can aid food safety and ensure food integrity. The examples covered parasite detection in Atlantic cod; aflatoxin, mold, or insects found in corn kernels, fusarium and gray mold observed in malting barley, and more. The presentation included images from the VideometerLab, where the spectral imaging bands including fluorescence were used to identify contaminants in food samples.

The VideometerLab’s unique technology allows to measure and analyse over 12 million spectra on a food sample images. Thus, it allows for the characterization of physical and chemical features in a fast, non-destructive way. Videometer’s food analysis is possible on fruits, vegetables, baked goods, meat, seafood, cereals, dairy products, and whatever you can imagine.
